Brother Be Well Wellness for Boys and Men of Color

An overload of stress, busyness, and poor nutrition can lead to fatigue. If you want to boost your energy and feel more vibrant, be sure you’re adding the following energy boosting foods to your diet. Healthy food for every man should contain the right amount of protein, fats, carbohydrates, and enzymes all aimed to increase energy levels, develop muscle, and boost overall health.

Here are 7 energy-boosting foods to help combat fatigue:

1. Spinach

Spinach contains a high amount of magnesium, which can boost energy. One cup of spinach has almost 40% of one’s daily need of magnesium. If your body is lacking magnesium, it can lead to fatigue, so be sure to eat plenty of magnesium-rich foods, and/or take a magnesium supplement.

2. Quinoa

Quinoa is a grain full of protein and amino acids. Adding it regularly to one’s diet can boost energy, aid the cardiovascular system, and help with the digestive processes.

3. Goji Berries

To boost energy, the Chinese have been eating goji berries for thousands of years. They also help reduce stress and enhance mood. Consume goji as berries or in liquid form, as goji juice provides more benefits than eating the berries. These berries are loaded with antioxidants, like Vitamins A, C, and E. Along with goji berries, grab some strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and other types of berries, which are great with yogurt and smoothies.

4. Oranges

Oranges contain Vitamin C, which is known to reduce stress and boost energy levels. Oranges can also boost the immune system. Try to eat an orange every day!

5. Green vegetables

Kale, broccoli, mustard greens, and other dark green, leafy vegetables contain a high number of vitamins, which are really helpful in reducing stress and combatting fatigue. Eat some greens every day, like a salad for lunch or as a side to your meals. If not every day, at least several times a week can be beneficial. Your body will thrive on the nutrients found in green vegetables.

6. Water

Water is essential for energy levels. Be sure to drink at least 6-8 glasses per day to adequately hydrate.

7. Trail Mix

Protein is great for providing energy. You can get a great deal of protein from foods like nuts, fish, peanut butter, tofu, meat, and yogurt. For a great energy boost, grab a package of trail mix. It’s packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fats.
